Wardlow: It Doesn’t Get Bigger Than Wardlow Versus Goldberg

Wardlow is interested in facing Goldberg if the opportunity presents itself.

Wardlow is often compared to Goldberg; like the WWE Hall of Famer, Wardlow has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the wrestling world. Wardlow has often been presented like Goldberg, especially earlier in his AEW run, when he racked up numerous wins in squash matches. These days, Wardlow is a three-time TNT Champion, and he currently holds the gold. Meanwhile, fans continue to speculate about Goldberg potentially coming to AEW, as he is officially a free agent, and his name value is undeniable.

Speaking with Simon Miller of WhatCulture Wrestling at WrestleCon, Wardlow teased his interest in facing the legend. Miller asked Wardlow whether the rumor that Goldberg pointed at him and said, “You’re next” at the convention was true, and he responded by stating that he actually pointed at Goldberg.

“I actually pointed at him and I said, ‘Bet your ass I’m not next.’ So yeah, you guys just missed it. Goldberg did walk through just a minute ago and we exchanged words. Don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, but we both mutually agreed that if the opportunity comes, we would love to see who really is next,” Wardlow said.

When asked whether facing Goldberg is a dream match for him, Wardlow noted that it was. He compared the way fans chant for the two of them before he emphasized that it doesn’t get bigger than a potential clash between the two powerhouses.

“Yeah, I mean, if you could have Batista, Lesnar, Goldberg, I put those three in the same category of dream monster matches. So yeah, Goldberg is… I mean, we just heard, ‘Wardlow.’ We haven’t heard that chant since ‘Goldberg.’ So I think Wardlow versus Goldberg, it doesn’t get bigger than that. It does not get bigger than Wardlow versus Goldberg. It doesn’t,” Wardlow said.

Miller noted that Wardlow could be the one to retire Goldberg, as the legend likely doesn’t have many matches left in his career. The AEW star responded by stating that he’d be quite content knowing he was the one to end Goldberg’s career.

“If it comes down to Wardlow is the man to retire Goldberg, I can die peacefully,” he said.

Goldberg recently discussed his free agent status. Click here to see what he had to say.

Tony Khan previously noted that he’s paying attention to Goldberg’s free agency. Check out his comments here.

Wardlow aligned with Arn Anderson and won the TNT Championship on the April 19 episode of AEW Dynamite. He and Anderson will speak on the April 26 episode of AEW Dynamite. Fightful will have live coverage of the show as it airs on Wednesday.
