VSPC Local Tourism Spent $500,000 To Secure WWE Royal Rumble 2024
Details on WWE Royal Rumble coming to Tampa, FL in 2024.
WWE Royal Rumble 2024 is set to take place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on January 27.
Jason Latimer, public relations director for Visit St. Pete-Clearwater, told the Catalyst that VSPC spent $500,000 of its tourist development tax funding, which were accrued from overnight stays at county hotels, in its successful bid to secure the event.
The overall economic impact of the event being in St. Petersburg is unknown, but over 40,000 fans from all across the globe are expected to attend.
“The exposure and marketing benefits, and the visitation we’re going to get from this, are astronomical,” said Brian Lowack, CEO of VSPC. “We can take those monies that we collect from those visitors in their overnight stays and reinvest them in capital projects here, which will increase visitation.”
He added that the tourism taxes could help fund beach renourishments and a new ballpark for the Tampa Rays. Lowack said VSPC has planned “a ton of activations” the week before the Royal Rumble and throughout that weekend.
The article also notes that The Greater Orlando Sports Commission allocated $850,000 for its bid to host the event at Camping World Stadium. Orange County leaders projected a $28 million economic impact.
No matches have officially been announced for the 2024 Royal Rumble. The event hosts the annual men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches where the respective winners receive a world title match at WrestleMania.
