Vince McMahon: “I’ve Never Been Cool. I Don’t Give A Shit About That.”

Vince McMahon is not worried about being cool.

On March 3, McMahon appeared on The Pat McAfee Show for his first live interview in fifteen years. During their discussion, WWE’s Chairman of the Board discussed a number of topics, including his intimate involvement in the creative process at the age of 76.

“It would matter if I was 36,” he began by saying. “You have to overcome the stereotype sometimes. ‘Vince is not hip, he’s not with it.’ I’ve never been cool. I don’t give a shit about that. You listen to people and you try to give them as much creative ability as possible because it makes them more invested. If there’s an idea that I really like and a performer says, ‘I’m not so sure, I don’t like that.’ I’ll go, ‘what’s the alternative?’ If the alternative is better, I’ll go, ‘Great.’ There is no pride of authorship. That’s the way to go. You do need to lead. You can’t just wait. ‘Here’s what I’m offering. Not buying it? Okay. Here’s what I’m offering.'”

Continuing on, Vince said that he has to put his personal preferences aside and ask, ‘Do you appeal to our (WWE’s) audience?’ At the end of the day, that’s what they as a promotion are all about.

“It’s not about my personal taste, if it’s not getting over, (even if it’s), ‘He’s a cool dude, I like the way he performs,’ you wouldn’t be there. Do you appeal to the audience? That’s what we’re all about. We’re having fun doing that and we all have fun doing what we do. It’s no work, it’s just constant, it’s so fucking cool,” he said.

Elsewhere during the interview, McMahon said he doesn’t think about the future of WWE without him. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
