Vince McMahon Doubts WWE Will Return To Saudi Arabia In 2020
Plans for WWE to return to Saudi Arabia are in doubt due to COVID-19.
For the past two years, WWE has traveled to Saudi Arabia twice a year to hold major events as part of its agreement with Saudi General Sports Authority. WWE traveled to Saudi Arabia in February 2020 for Super ShowDown and though there was no scheduled date for them to return later in the year, at some point WWE would have traveled back to Saudi Arabia for its second yearly event in the country.
Due to COVID-19, those plans are in jeopardy.
“A decision hasn’t been made yet, although based on where they are in their economy, I would doubt it,” said Vince McMahon on the second-quarter financials call when asked about the company returning to Saudi later this year.
Aside from taping cinematic matches in various locations, WWE hasn’t traveled outside of the Performance Center since March as arena across the country have shutdown and travel restrictions have been put in place.
It is unknown when WWE will make it back to Saudi Arabia.
