USA Network To Allow “The F Word” To Be Used In Their Programming Uncensored
USA's new stance on foul language is unlikely to change anything on Raw or Smackdown.
A recent Buzzfeed article is highlighting the USA Network's recent unmuting of the F word. The article mentioned that up to last year, the policy was that the F word had to be "dipped" — meaning that part of the word had to be muted out. Executives at the Syfy and the USA Network declined to discuss the recent change, but a spokesperson told Buzzfeed that if that word is deemed important to the show, USA and Syfy will allow it to go uncensored. USA Network shows like Happy and Mr. Robot have used the word recently.
WWE's stance on vulgar language is not likely to change. All of WWE's programming is rated PG at the moment and there isn't any plans to move the product towards an edgier line. A couple of decades ago, the show used to be rife with language and adult content, with one episode from 1997 where Bret Hart cut an obscenity laced promo after losing a steel cage match, which became particularly memorable for the amount of foul language used.
The F word was generally avoided, though in a segment a couple of years ago on Raw Vince McMahon used the word during a promo against Shane McMahon that was muted.
