ROH Wrestling Television Results for 10/5/20 Episode #472 Williams vs Taylor, Black vs Deppen

The first round of the PURE Title Tournament draws to a close on this week’s episode!

– We open this week’s episode with a video package for the PURE Title Tournament before we get a video package for last week’s matches in which Josh Woods and Fred Yehi were victorious.

– We get a video package for the two men competing in our first tournament match tonight between the veteran Tracy Williams and the newly signed Rust Taylor.

ROH PURE Title Tournament A Block First Round Match

Tracy Williams vs Rust Taylor

They lock up for several stalemates before exchanging arm and wrist locks before Tracy hits a snap mare. Rust comes back with several kicks and an arm drag before kicking Tracy again and Tracy clotheslining him for two. Tracy then locks in a cross face before Rust gets free and Tracy hits a piledriver before locking in the cross face for the tap and the win.

Winner: Tracy Williams defeats Rust Taylor via submission to advance to the next round of the tournament.

– After the match we get a video package for PJ Black and Tony Deppen.

ROH PURE Title Tournament Block B First Round Match

PJ Black w/Brian Johnson vs Tony Deppen

They go back and forth before PJ locks Tony in a standing side headlock and drops him with a shoulder block. PJ takes Tony down with a side headlock take over before they run the ropes and PJ hits a deep arm drag into a straight arm bar. Tony gets to his feet and backs PJ against the ropes before PJ drops Tony with a spinning heel kick. Tony takes PJ down and goes for an STF, but PJ scrambles to the ropes for his first of three rope breaks. PJ sends Tony onto the apron before they end up at ringside and PJ superkicks Tony before sending him back into the ring.

PJ hits a diving ax handle for two before locking in a stretch and Tony turns it into a pin attempt for one before PJ immediately drops him. PJ locks in an arm trap abdominal stretch before getting two off of a crucifix and hitting a back suplex. PJ focuses on joint manipulation before driving the arm of Tony into the mat before hitting a running forearm in the corner. Tony then dropkicks PJ in midair when he comes off of the top with a diving cross body as we go to commercial.

We come back to see Tony in control, sweeping PJ before hitting a running meteora for two. Tony drops PJ and misses a diving stomp before they exchange forearms and kicks. Tony rocks PJ with s headbutt and takes him down before locking in an STF. PJ gets to the ropes right before tapping for the second rope break as the match reaches the ten minute point. Tony hits a somersault through the ropes when PJ gets out of the ring before sending him back in and hitting a diving stomp for a near fall.

PJ hits a pump handle cutter for a one count before hitting a corkscrew DDT for a near fall. PJ then hits a crucifix driver for the pin and the win.

Winner: PJ Black defeats Tony Deppen via pinfall to advance to the next round of the tournament.

– We end the show with the updated brackets as we see that Jay Lethal will face David Finlay on next week’s show as we go off the air.
