The Undertaker Reflects On Working The 1998 Hell In A Cell Match With A Fractured Ankle
The Undertaker speaks!
In honor of the 20th anniversary since Mick Foley and The Undertaker’s historic Hell In A Cell match at the 1998 ‘King Of The Ring’ PPV in Pittsburgh, PA, WWE profiled those who were there the night of the match and those who were involved in it including WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley and the interview featured a number of comments from “The Phenom” himself, The Undertaker. Mick Foley will be stepping back inside Hell In A Cell tomorrow night at the ‘Hell In A Cell’ PPV as he will referee the WWE Universal Championship match between Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns.
But for the time being WWE reflected on one of the most memorable matches in the company’s history and as the profile/interview rolled on, The Undertaker reflected on having a fractured ankle coming into the match but he stated that it was something he was determined to push through because the match had to be done.
“Yeah I did have a fracture in my ankle.” Undertaker revealed. “It was such a important time in the business – you knew you had to do it, so you just grit your teeth and go in there and do what you do. To be completely honest, its like, ‘Crap, am I gonna be able to get up there?’ The answer was yes because I don’t… I would’ve got up there, I don’t care how but I would’ve got up there. It was definitely an exciting way to start off a Hell In A Cell match – to start out on top.”
After The Undertaker tossed Mick Foley off the cage and a few minutes blew by, many fans remember the image of the structure rising as The Undertaker stood atop of it. Taker stated that he was aware that the staff was trying to get Foley out and although he was nearly twenty feet off the ground without any communication, he did not panic.
“When I tossed him off from there, as I was watching him fall, and it seemed like it took forever for him to hit the table. The only thing I can liken it to is whatever an out of body experience [feels like] – it was very, it was so crazy.” The Undertaker explained. “It was so loud and there were the people. At that point nothing like that had ever been done. Obviously I know they raised the cage but I was kind of oblivious to it really. I was so zoned in to what we were doing at that point. You know I’m kinda up there without any kind of communication with anything or anybody. I’m just like, ‘Well I guess I’m not going anywhere until they bring me down’.”
Mick Foley did an interview recently where he stated that his history inside Hell In A Cell will not take away from what Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns will do tomorrow night. For more on that, click here.
