Undertaker Once Made Zack Ryder Apologize To Triple H For Being On His Phone During A Main Event
Matt Cardona recalls having to apologize to The Undertaker, Triple H, and Vladimir Kozlov for being on his phone during a headlining match Triple H and Kozlov were involved in.
Nowadays, it is commonplace to be on your cell phone at almost all times of the day but in 2008, smartphones were still a new concept, and in the world of professional wrestling, it was still expected that all talents, especially those on the rise, pay attention to matches that they were not involved in, especially the main event.
Speaking on episode 3 of MC! True Long Island Story, Matt Cardona recalled a time during a live event tour where The Undertaker caught him and Brian Myers on their cell phones during a main event between Triple H and Vladimir Kozlov.
Cardona recalls being concerned about upsetting a locker room leader in The Undertaker and recounts the awkward moment of having to knock on the door to Triple H’s dressing room and apologize for being on their cell phones.
“One time I got in trouble by The Undertaker for being on my cell phone. For those who don’t know the story, it was overseas, we were in Mexico. I believe the main event is Vladimir Kozlov vs. Triple H. This is like the last night of the tour, so how many times have I seen this match? All the boys are sitting watching the monitor and Hawkins and I are on our phones. Hawkins claims he was just checking the time at this particular instance, but The Undertaker gives The Undertaker head snap, basically, [he says we were disrespectful for being on our phone] and he’s pretty pissed. and I’m like, okay this is The Undertaker, locker room leader, and he’s pissed.
“Mark Henry pulls us inside and says, ‘you need to apologize to Undertaker.’ So Hawkins and I, we pull [Undertaker] aside and we apologize. He’s super cool about it, super cool because we were very respectful. He was super cool, but he was like, ‘you really need to apologize to the guys in the main event.’”
Cardona continued, “Okay, so will apologize to Vladimir Kozlov, which I don’t even know if we did. Maybe we did, but he doesn’t know what’s going on. We love Oleg, Oleg’s the best. One of our friends from Deep South. Now, we have to stooge ourselves off to Triple H. So, Triple H, I’ll never forget this, he’s in like a private dressing room and we are like [knocks] ‘Um, excuse me, Triple H. We were on our cell phones during your match and we’re really really sorry. That was very disrespectful,’ or whatever we said. He played it off like he didn’t care.
“When that cell phone incident happened, this was like, [Hawkins and Ryder] we’re not with Edge anymore, this was like the beginning of the end oh, so I’m sure that didn’t do us any favors. Flash Forward, there is literally something called the social media Zone where you are encouraged to be on your phone. There’s literally like phone chargers, for people to charge their phones and stuff, to tweet and all these hashtags to use.”
Cardona would go on to say that the social media zone no longer exists and present-day WWE but, of course, social media is such an integral part of the world that even The Undertaker himself has official accounts
Of course, The Undertaker made headlines recently when he stated that today’s WWE roster is too soft because they spend their time playing video games. You can read this comment at this link.
