The Undertaker Double Checked With Vince McMahon On Ending The Streak, Wasn’t Going Against His Call
The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania came to a shocking end at WrestleMania 30 when he was defeated by Brock Lesnar.
Taker was 21-0 heading into the match and many thought he may never lose at WrestleMania. Undertaker knew at some point his streak would have to end. But he wanted to make sure Vince McMahon was comfortable with the decision.
“Internally, and the way the business works, I knew someday [the streak] probably would end,” Undertaker told Ariel Helwani on Helwani’s MMA Show. “In our industry, you don’t walk away like Floyd Mayweather and retire undefeated. It just doesn’t happen that way in wrestling. It was always in the back of my mind that it would end. Most of my peers and people I work with thought it was a horrible decision. I just asked Vince, ‘Are you sure? Is this what you want?’ He was like, ‘If it’s not Brock, who can beat you?’ ‘Alright, well, it’s your call.’ Everybody thinks that I have all this juice, that I can say yes or no, I could have said no, but what good is that going to do? That really would have disappointed people. What do I do, not go out or throw a tissy? That’s not me. I’m business. Business comes first before anything personal. I just double-checked and made it he was 100% sure. That was the plan and I went with it.”
WrestleMania 30 would be Undertaker’s first loss at WrestleMania, but it wouldn’t be his last. He would lose to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33 in what many thought, including Undertaker himself, would be his final match.
Elsewhere during the interview, Undertaker explained his UFC 121 appearance and confrontation with Brock Lesnar. You can find his full comments on the incident by clicking here.
