Undertaker Calls His Four-Year Story With Shawn Michaels And Triple H “Really Special”
The Undertaker discusses his four-year feud with Triple H and Shawn Michaels.
From WrestleMania 25 to WrestleMania 28, The Undertaker was locked into a feud with D-Generation X members Shawn Michaels and Triple H. Undertaker defeated Michaels at WrestleMania 25 before retiring him at WrestleMania 26. ‘The Deadman’ would then go on to beat Triple H at WrestleMania 27 before once again dispatching of ‘The Game’ inside Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania 28 in a match where Michaels served as the special guest referee.
Speaking to Steve Austin on the Broken Skull Sessions, Undertaker reflected on the four-year story with Michaels and Triple H.
“I always look at that as a four-year program. The two with Shawn and then the story continued with Triple H. Those matches were really tough. We had such high standards. The match with Shawn, say what you want, that boy can work. I remember sitting there, me and Triple H looking at each other like ‘Hmmm.’ But we figured it out, we can’t do what Shawn and I did. We have to go a completely different route. So the brutality, the physicality, was off the charts with Triple H and I. All four of those matches were story-based. I don’t put my own shit over. But that was really special and I was really proud, not only of the match itself, but the story.”
When asked how long Taker was able to enjoy the match in the back, Taker replied, “Not long, because after the adrenaline wears off, the pain comes back. All four of those. I enjoyed it for the minute, maybe an hour. After that, you just want to sit, because there’s such a build-up to the match and everything that goes around WrestleMania. If you’re lucky and you feel like you deliver on the build-up and hype, then you just, ‘we did it.’ Then you sit there, I would sit there damn near an hour then when it was time to get up, here’s the reality. The reality is you’re battered and beat up.”
The rivalry between Undertaker and Michaels & Triple H would continue long after WrestleMania 28. The three men, along with Kane as Undertaker’s partner, battled in a tag team match at WWE Crown Jewel 2018.
