Triple H On What MMA And Boxing Are Missing And How He’d Change It
If it were up to Triple H, boxing would be more of a spectacle, like WWE, but he understands the two products are presented differently by design.
If it were up to Triple H, boxing and MMA fights would be more of a spectacle, like sports entertainment, but he understands the products are presented differently by design.
There’s inherently some overlap between boxing, MMA, and professional wrestling because all three are combat sports, but they are notably different in a variety of ways.
Triple H took over WWE creative on July 25, and he was recently elevated to the company’s Chief Content Officer.
Speaking at the WWE Crown Jewel media scrum (via Matt Kempke), Triple H was asked what he thinks boxing and MMA fights are missing and what he thinks the sports could learn from WWE. He noted that, if it was up to him, he would put more “show” into it. However, he understands that the products are intentionally presented in their own ways.
“That’s not up to me to decide, but if I was to do it, put more show into it. There’s times when I go — I’m a big fan of boxing and MMA, and there’s times when I go to events, and it’s amazing to watch on television, but when you sit in the arena, then it’s maybe not the event that you wish it to be from start to finish, right. Those are the things that I would do differently, but that doesn’t mean I’m right. That’s how I would choose our product and how they choose their product is, you know, a decision for them. But for me, making it a bit more of a spectacle, making it a bit more of an event, that entertains you from start to finish — because I’ll tell you right now, everything is entertainment, no matter what. Doesn’t matter if it’s the news, doesn’t matter if it’s movies, television, doesn’t matter what sport, it’s all entertainment,” Triple H said.
Triple H attended the third fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17 in Las Vegas after hosting the WWE press conference between Roman Reigns and Logan Paul earlier in the day. Paul was also in attendance for the fight and commented on his boxing future. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
Dolph Ziggler recently shared his belief that Triple H is the best guy to lead WWE creative. You can check out his comments here.
