Triple H Says The Timing Was Right For Tyson Fury In WWE; Talks Going To Saudi Arabia

Triple H is all about entertaining.

On Oct. 31, WWE will once again head to Saudi Arabia for WWE Crown Jewel. The event will be headlined by a double main event featuring Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez for the WWE Title and Braun Strowman battling boxing champion Tyson Fury. While Velasquez signed a full-time contract with WWE, Fury’s appearance is potentially a one-off as he continues his boxing career.

Speaking to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Triple H discussed Tyson’s involvement in WWE.

“The timing of it is right. This was the timing for [Fury],” he explained. “We were reaching out as a ‘Hey, what if.’ And he was like, ‘The timing is now.’ I don’t know if we would have done [Cain and Fury] at the exact same time, but it worked. Things happen for a reason. If we can make it happen now and quickly, we can make this epic blockbuster event with Cain and Brock (as well). The timing is right with that too. Cain looked into [wrestling] awhile ago when he came to the Performance Center, but he still had the fight game in his head. He was looking to (wrestle) long term but he hadn’t put (fighting) away yet. Now he’s at the point where he did a few matches and he got the bug. I can see in his eyes that he wants this. He was looking to make the transition. [Tyson] was right place, right time. Just fell into our laps.”

Fury is reportedly targetting February for his return to the boxing ring against Deontay Wilder. He is currently under medical suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission until Nov. 14 as a result of cuts suffered in his Sept. 14 bout against Otto Wallin.

WWE’s events in Saudi Arabia have come under heavy criticism due to the oppressive government views. As of this writing, female WWE superstars are not allowed to perform in Saudi Arabia.

“We’re an entertainment company,” said Triple H when asked about WWE’s event in Saudi Arabia. “Politics and everything else aside, we have millions of fans in the Middle East that love what we do and love to be entertained by us. This is an opportunity for us to go there, like we’ve been doing for years and years, and entertain our fanbase. Our talent have seen that. They see the fans in the stadium going crazy. That’s what we do. We entertain. We’re not in it for politics, it’s about entertaining our fanbase.”

Tyson Fury added, “I’m an entertainer. I go where I have to go. I’m going over there to put on a show for the fans around the world. Boxing and wrestling fans.”

Elsewhere during the interview, Fury and Triple H were asked about Fury’s reported $15 million payday for Crown Jewel. You can read their comments by clicking here.
