Triple H Reveals Adam Cole vs. ‘The Fiend’ vs. Brock Lesnar Was Considered For WWE Survivor Series

Triple H on why the championship triple threat match won’t take place at Survivor Series.

While WWE Survivor Series is all about brand supremacy, fans won’t know who the superior men’s world champion is as NXT Champion Adam Cole, WWE Champion Brock Lesnar, and Universal Champion ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt will be defending their titles in singles competition.

On the NXT TakeOver: WarGames III media call, Triple H revealed that a triple threat match between the three champions was considered, but they decided to go in a different direction.

“Those conversations early in the process took place. There was a lot of debate around things,” he said. “When you finally got to it, the Lesnar-Rey Mysterio story was so strong, how do you step away from that and go to something else? It almost feels like that one needs to take place now. Once you did that, it started to change the dynamic so everybody morphed into their own spot. ‘The Fiend’ being what that is, it almost works cleaner to have his own unique storyline. Adam Cole will be on the show and defend his championship, reliant on everything going well and being healthy after WarGames.”

Cole will defend the NXT Title against the winner of Damian Priest vs. Pete Dunne vs. Killian Dain, which takes place at NXT TakeOver: WarGames III. Meanwhile, Lesnar will take on Mysterio in a no holds barred match and Wyatt will face Daniel Bryan.

On the subject of Cole, Triple H raved about him as a person and a professional.

“I can’t say enough good things about Adam Cole. A consummate pro, represents well, well-spoken, smart. He has it all. He’s been everywhere and he’s represented on short notice, not the easiest of requests. On short notice, he gets in there with Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins and tears the place down. Gets to Fox, goes on WWE Backstage, represents himself incredibly well. I have people calling me and sending me notes all day long about Fox, ‘This kid is a star.’ He has it, he’s humble, he’s smart, he’s a sponge for the business. Wants to know everything there is about it. He’s a leader in the locker room. I can’t say enough good stuff about him. Professional. Adam Cole,” he stated.

Cole is currently wrestling with a fractured wrist. He took part in a ladder match against Dominik Dijakovic on Wednesday’s NXT and is scheduled to compete at WarGames III and Survivor Series.
