Regal worked for WWE for many years, and he had a vital role in helping build NXT into what it became under Triple H’s leadership. Once health issues forced Triple H to step away in the fall of 2021, WWE drastically rebranded NXT and shifted its philosophy. Regal was subsequently released in January 2022, and he went on to sign with All Elite Wrestling. He made his AEW debut at AEW Revolution 2022 and founded the Blackpool Combat Club with Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. Regal was featured in AEW until he ultimately left the company at the end of 2022, as he asked the company not to renew his contract so he could go back to WWE.

Speaking on his What Happened When podcast, co-host Conrad Thompson brought up Regal’s return to WWE. Schiavone stated that Regal is one of the more valuable people a wrestling company could have. He then stated that the veteran spent a lot of time working with young talent before shows during his AEW run.

“Regal is one of the more valuable people you can have. He was us for a time, and he really, really spent a lot of time before shows, even starting earlier in the day, working with the young talent. Not only going in the ring and showing them things, but talking to them. As you know if you listened to his podcasts, William Regal knows how to talk. Boy does he ever. I don’t think he’s a blabbermouth who talks too much, but he talks a lot,” Schiavone said.

Regal started with WWE in January 2023, and he is now the company’s Vice President of Global Talent Development.

During a recent interview, Regal described how he went to AEW with a different plan, and it never transpired. Check out his comments here.
