Tony Schiavone Praises Ricky Starks-Ricky Steamboat Segment On 8/5 AEW Collision

On the August 5 episode of AEW Collision, Ricky Starks failed to win the “Real” AEW World Title from CM Punk, thanks in part to Ricky Steamboat pushing his foot off the ropes and then counting the fall when Punk scored a roll up.

After the bout, Starks attacked both men and whipped Steamboat with his own belt.

Speaking on his What Happened When podcast, Tony Schiavone looked back on the moment.

“Ricky Steamboat is such a professional. Such a great talent. Still can probably outsell most people in the business today at 70 years old,” he said.

When co-host Conrad Thompson noted that it was a big match and moment for Starks, Schiavone replied, “This moment was not lost on Ricky Starks. I think about how much it meant to his career. We’re doing some good things on Saturday night. We really are. I’m really enjoying doing the show because I’m really, really busy backstage because we do pre-tapes. We do a lot of ROH pre-tapes backstage, too. So I stay very busy during the show, to the point to where I don’t always get to watch the program because I’m doing a lot of backstage work. But I love doing the in-ring interviews, and I love doing the pre-tapes. I’m just really, really enjoying what we’re doing on Saturday night. So it’s been really cool.”

As previously reported, Steamboat requested to have Starks beat him down and come out on top to close the show.

Schiavone did a sit-down segment with The Acclaimed on Saturday’s AEW Collision.
