Tony Schiavone Makes More From ‘Ready To Rumble’ Than WWE Network
Former WCW announcer Tony Schiavone wants you to know that you can continue to support him by purchasing the film Ready To Rumble.
On the latest episode of What Happened When, Schiavone and co-host Conrad Thompson provided alternate commentary to the classic WCW film.
Prior to their journey behind the scenes, Schiavone revealed that he still makes a bit of scratch from the movie.
“If you rent the movie or if you download it, I do have to say that (Screen Actors Guild) really comes through. I get a check every year still from this movie. Every first of the year I get a check, and the checks have been, the last five to ten years, about $200 to $300 a year. That’s $200 to $300 a year that you don’t expect.”
Thompson followed up with a shot across the bow of WWE.
“It’s $200 or $300 more than you got for 30 years worth of wrestling available on the WWE Network. One shitty movie, that didn’t even make its budget, you’re still getting paid. Countless Starrcade’s, bupkis.”
If you haven’t seen Ready To Rumble yet, maybe this will incentivize you do to so. And if, like myself, you’ve seen it roughly 100 times, watch it again with alternate commentary provided by the voice of WCW.
Ready To Rumble stars former Heavyweight Champion David Arquette and a handful of WCW’s biggest stars including Sting, Goldberg, and Diamond Dallas Page. It was released in 2000 and paved the way for the triple cage match that WCW used at Slamboree 2000.
