Tony Khan Talked To NJPW About Promo Aimed At Nick Khan, Says NJPW Thought It Was Great

Tony Khan made headlines on May 28 when he cut a promo aimed at Nick Khan and WWE’s reported talks with NJPW regarding a potential partnership.

The promo was released on AEW’s social media channels with Khan ending his promo by saying, “I think there is room for only room for one Khan in the wrestling business. It’s me, Tony Khan, not some con man from Connecticut.”

Speaking during the AEW Double or Nothing post-show media scrums, Khan was asked about the promo.

“I talked to New Japan and I asked them if they thought it would be a good idea and a good promo. They thought it was great and I thought it would be a great promo. It made sense. It was a big weekend for us and it’s true, we have a lot of stuff going with New Japan. Everyone is welcome to talk to each other and we’ve done some great stuff with New Japan just in the last few weeks and I think we’re going to do a lot of great things going forward with everything we’ve talked about and agreed to. I’m excited about it,” he said.

Yuji Nagata, Ren Naraita, and Rocky Romero have all appeared on AEW television in recent weeks, with Nagata facing Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Title on Dynamite.

When asked if he’s had any talks with AEW, Khan said, “It’s little stuff, mostly backchannel stuff. A good example if when Chris ended up on Broken Skull Sessions. Chris and Steve had talked and Steve talked to the people who run WWE and it was good.”

Chris Jericho was a guest on Steve Austin’s “Broken Skull Sessions” during WrestleMania weekend.
