Tony Khan Says He Is Still Interested In Doing A Round Robin Style Tournament In AEW
Tony Khan wants to do a different style tournament in AEW.
AEW has done dozens of tournaments since its inception with all being single elimination tournaments on the path to crown a champion or contender.
AEW has had an impact on the annual NJPW G1 Climax tournament, which is a round robin tournament that lasts for a month, as Tony Khan has sent talent over to Japan to compete in the tournament.
Speaking on the Pacific Rim podcast, Khan said he’s still interested in bringing a round robin tournament to AEW.
“There are single elimination tournaments in AEW. We’ve never done a round robin tournament. It’s something I am interested in, but certainly, the G1 is an industry leader there when it comes to being the preeminent round robin tournament in pro wrestling. We participate in the G1. We’ve sent people in the past. With Eddie Kingston being part of G1 and Wheeler Yuta competing in Super Juniors, it gives us great opportunities to have top stars from AEW that we believe in, represent AEW in Japan,” he said.
Eddie Kingston will compete in the G1 Climax 33 tournament.
AEW will welcome its latest tournament, The Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament, on the June 21 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
