Tony Khan Says ‘The First Dance’ Will Be A Very Atypical Episode Of AEW Rampage
Tony Khan continues to hype up AEW Rampage’s ‘The First Dance.’
On August 13, AEW Rampage debuted in a big way with three title matches, one of which saw Kenny Omega drop the IMPACT World Championship to Christian Cage. Next week’s follow-up, dubbed ‘The First Dance’ is set to take place at the United Center in Chicago.
On July 21, Fightful reported CM Punk was in talks with AEW for an in-ring return. Since then, various references and teases to Punk have been made on AEW programming. Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Tony Khan was asked about the possibility of Punk showing up at The First Dance, saying that “I can’t answer that question, but it’s a very good question to ask.”
Khan continued on to build anticipation for next week’s show by saying it will be a very atypical episode of Rampage and calling it a historic wrestling event.
“This show belongs to the wrestling fans,” said Khan. “Now is the time for more AEW on TNT and TBS. There is only more excitement to come in the weeks ahead. I’ve looked forward to this day for so long, and this was a great debut for Rampage. It’s a totally different format for us, and next week will be a very atypical episode of Rampage.
“I’m so excited for what is ahead next week. We’re going to give people very special wrestling television. ‘The First Dance’ is going to be a one-time, historic wrestling television event.”
Fightful will have live coverage of The First Dance next Friday, August 20, beginning at 7 p.m. PST.
