Tony Khan Reveals Chris Jericho Pitched ‘Le Dinner Debonaire’ As A Dream Sequence
Following the October 21 episode of AEW Dynamite, all anyone could talk about was the Le Dinner Debonaire segment between Chris Jericho and MJF.
The segment featured Jericho and MJF sitting down for a steak dinner before breaking into a song and dance. Fans were divided on the segment with some complaining that it wasn’t “real sports” while others enjoyed the uniqueness of the segment.
Speaking on AEW Unrestricted, Tony Khan revealed Jericho’s original pitch for Le Dinner Debonaire.
“Chris comes up a lot of ideas and I think almost every idea Chris has is great and that idea, I thought, was great. I still think that idea to get buzz on this match and build a story and brought in a ton of attention, and the follow up with Town Hall, which was more of a conventional wrestling segment, did incredibly well. What you see, a lot of it, was Chris’ own ideas. He has ideas for other people as well, he is a phenomenal wrestling genius. He came in and pitched — the one thing that I took exception was, he pitched a dream sequence and it would be a dream sequence where they would start singing. I was like, ‘No, we’re not doing that.’ I do love that idea of them singing,” he said.
When revealing his one regret regarding the segment, Khan said, “If I could have done something different in hindsight, and we all brought this up and agreed on this, I would have done it in the ring. I would have rather done it in the ring. It would have been challenging to do it live, we could’ve taped it in the ring and it would’ve been great.”
Jericho said that they were up until 2 AM filming the segment and he believed it to be the greatest moment in wrestling history.
Jericho and MJF are set to clash this Saturday at AEW Full Gear where MJF can join the Inner Circle if he wins. Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Full Gear beginning at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday.
