Tony Khan Discusses The Importance Of Minute-By-Minute Ratings With AEW Dynamite

Every Thursday the viewership and rating numbers come out for AEW Dynamite and fans endlessly debate their importance.

While some fans may not put as much stock into the numbers as they did in the 90s as television has changed over the last 20 years, AEW President Tony Khan uses the data as a barometer to see who and what works, and who and what doesn’t.

“They matter a lot. Every Friday, I go through them extensively,” said Khan on the PWTorch podcast when asked about the ratings. “I’m really digging into the minute-by-minute. One slot, one match, one minute isn’t going to make or break my opinion on anything, but consistent performance will. I’m starting to get a pretty good beat a year in on who the audience really likes to see and who they don’t like to see. Then there are people who haven’t posted the biggest ratings yet but I believe in them and will give them chances. It’s something I look closely at every week and it’s a work in progress. I won’t just look at one week’s data, I’m looking at months worth of rolling data and patterns. The people that are doing the biggest ratings this year aren’t necessarily the people doing the biggest ratings in 2019, which I think is interesting.”

AEW Dynamite has consistently outperformed NXT every Wednesday in terms of overall viewership and demographic rating.
