Tony Khan: Cody Rhodes Found A Good Situation For Him, I Hope He Keeps Doing Positive Stuff

Despite being one of the founding fathers of AEW and one of four Executive Vice Presidents, Cody Rhodes officially departed the company on February 15.

Rhodes officially returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 as the mystery opponent for Seth Rollins.

Speaking to Brandon Walker on Rasslin, Tony Khan commented on Rhodes moving to WWE.

“It’s just one of those things. We couldn’t reach an agreement going forward and he’s found a situation that is good for him and we’re in a great position right now. There is no ill will either way, we’re still friends. I wish him the best and I think he wished us the best publicly and privately. it’s all good,” he said.

When asked if wrestlers jumping makes for a bigger buzz and a more entertaining wrestling landscape, Khan said, “We’ve been doing great shows, great pay-per-views. Any buzz in professional wrestling is great for professional wrestling as long as it’s positive stuff and positive stories. I hope he keeps doing positive stuff and wish him the best.”

Khan continued to discuss the departure of Rhodes in an interview with Marc Raimondi of ESPN.

When asked if he was surprised that Cody went to WWE, Khan said, “No. It’s a binary decision. He wasn’t going to be here and based on the conversations we were having — he never outright told me — but it was obvious that was what was happening.”

Asked how he felt about things given that Cody was one of the first members of the AEW roster, Khan replied, “Not anything I want to comment on. Like I’ve said, I appreciate the things Cody and his wife, Brandi Rhodes, did in AEW and I saw Cody show up in WWE. Like I said before he showed up there, it’s all still true: I still like him and wish him the best. I’m appreciative of the stuff he did in AEW. We spent hundreds and hundreds of hours together and know each other very well. I think we parted on very good terms.”

Cody has said that he felt he and Khan were drifting apart, but there is nothing but respect between the two. You can find Cody’s comments by clicking here.
