Toni Storm Recalls Working Hardcore Matches At 14-Years Old, Talks Her Match With Io Shirai At ‘Evolution’

Toni Storm is going into her match on Sunday head-first.

WWE’s first-ever all-women’s PPV ‘Evolution’ is a mere two days away. After all the hype surrounding the show dating back to this past summer, the women of WWE will have their chance to have the spotlight focused solely on them. The sports-entertainment company’s motto for ‘Evolution’ is “the past, the present and the future” and the future will be on display in a number of matches on the show including the finals of the Mae Young Classic tournament.

Former two-time World Of STARDOM Champion Io Shirai and the 23-year old Toni Storm will do battle to crown the second-ever winner of the Mae Young Classic. Toni is looking to bring the storm to the Nassau Coliseum on Sunday but ahead of that she brought it during her interview to promote her match and the ‘Evolution’ PPV when she chatted with Brian Fritz of Sporting News and recalled beginning her career in professional wrestling at a very young age and trying to make a name for herself in hardcore fashion while doing it.

“When I was 14 and 15, I would do some stupid matches,” said Storm. “I would do hardcore matches and get hit with signs and do that kind of stuff which I stopped doing after a while. At the time, I didn’t think anything of it, but now that I’m older I think back and wonder what my mom would have been thinking. Now, I try to do everything I can to make up for all of the stress I caused.”

On top of wanting to run the gauntlet in the Mae Young Classic, Toni Storm is also eager to become the leading woman of NXT’s U.K. brand in-which Rhea Ripley is the current champion of. Storm discussed the highly-regarded vibe of the NXT U.K. locker room and the opportunity that is available to all involved with the show.

“There’s so many great guys and girls there and we’ve put on killer shows,” Storm excitedly explained. “It’s so underrated. The British talent is so incredibly underrated and it’s all come from everyone’s own creativity and hard work and passion. We thought a year ago the U.K. was at its best and now we have an NXT division. Of course, it was always worthy of it, but we never thought we’d be able to have that and now we do and so many good guys and girls are getting opportunities now that we never thought we could.”

Also on tap for ‘Evolution’ are three championship matches, a six-woman tag match and a Battle Royal and to view who’s in those respective matches, click here.
