Tomoaki Honma Announces The Date For His Return To In-Ring Competition
The death-match warrior will make his in-ring return later this month.
In March of 2017 ten-year NJPW veteran Tomoaki Honma was stretchered out of an event after suffering a critical injury. Honma was a part of a six-man tag team match alongside Togi Makabe & Michael Elgin and the trio took on the team of Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano, and Jado. During the bout Jado executed a top-rope DDT onto Honma that did not go over as smoothly as one would hope and Tomoaki Honma ended up landing on his head and was unresponsive when his fellow competitors and the referee attempted to check on him.
The day after the incident occurred NJPW announced that Honma injured his cervical vertebrae which is right below the skull. A few days after the update Honma regained strength and was able to grasp objects which he was not able to do just a few days prior. At the end of March last year Honma underwent surgery and following the surgery he stated that he was looking to return to in-ring competition despite the severity of his injury.
The former IWGP Tag Team Champion did not go back on his words as he made an appearance during the 'Best Of The Super Juniors 25' tournament last night to a welcoming reaction from the crowd and he announced that he will be making his return to in-ring competition on June 23rd during the NJPW 'Kizuna Road' tour.
