Exclusive: Tessa Blanchard Weighs In On The Progression Of Women’s Wrestling

Tessa Blanchard is all about making history.

The 22-year old Tessa Blanchard is no stranger to making history in the pro wrestling industry and even at the age of 22 years old she has placed herself in position to be considered by fans as one of the best women's wrestlers in the sport. Blanchard recently made history by becoming the first-ever 'PCW Ultra' Women's Champion and her resume' thus far has led her to being selected to compete at 'All In' on September 1st. The event will be the first independent wrestling show in the United States to sellout a 10,000 seat arena in under thirty minutes and Tessa will be a part of that.

At the 'All In' press conference on May 13th Fightful's very own Steven Muehlhausen was in attendance and was able to speak with Tessa Blanchard to grab her thoughts on continuing to break down barriers in the industry and the on-going evolution of women's wrestling.

"For me I think… So when I started out in wrestling I didn’t tell my family about it and it was kind of like, wrestling is what got me… got me to connect with my family again, and I believe mindset is everything." She said. "If you can change your mindset about something you can get through any circumstance, any situation and you can pull yourself through. So I pride myself on my mental strength, and with women’s wrestling I think that, we’re headed in such an awesome direction. Its such a good time for women’s wrestling and for me, when I went through hard times early on in life; even before I started wrestling, I think I could’ve benefited from having someone to look up to or look at them and say, ‘Hey, they've been through something’ and because they could make it maybe I can too." She continued, "so for me, no matter what I did, I wanted to inspire someone or motivate someone or maybe even the next generation and it just so happens that God gave me wrestling to hopefully do that for someone. It just so happens that that’s my path. I think its kind of a cool thing… I don’t know really where I’m going with this, but that’s what I want to do in wrestling, and for ‘All In’, I feel like they’ve, so far, got a really good group of girls. Some of the best in the world. I’ve shared the ring with all the ones announced so far I’ve shared the ring with and [they are] some of the most hard-hitting women. They have traveled all over the world, held titles all over the world, won tournaments all over the world. There are some really freakin’ talented women and I’m just excited to make history with them."

Fightful also had the opportunity to speak with the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Marty Scurll. To read what Scurll thinks of the rapid success of 'All In', click here.
