Tegan Nox: Before The Injuries, I Thought I Was Invincible And I Was Wrong
Tegan Nox has had a long road in NXT thanks to major injuries, but she says she’s learned from those experiences.
Nox had two major knee surgeries that cost her more than a year of her in-ring career as she has spent many months in rehab. Now that she’s fully recovered, Nox has been able to become a mainstay on NXT’s women’s division. Before she faced Dakota Kai in a steel cage match on the March 4 episode of NXT, Nox spoke to Sports Illustrated about her road to get to this point in her career where she is now competing on TakeOver shows and wrestling in a steel cage match.
“I want to prove to everyone watching and those who have ever doubted me that you can overcome any obstacle. People doubted me because of my knee injuries, but now I’ve had my first TakeOver and now I’m in a steel cage on NXT TV live on the USA Network. That’s something not many people can say they’ve done, especially coming from Wales in a hometown that is so small. Dakota [who is from New Zealand] and me, we’re the first two very female athletes from our respective countries against one another in a cage match, and that means a lot to us,” Nox said.
When talking about her injuries and being out of action for so long, Nox said she’s learned that she’s not invisible and that injuries are a part of the game. It also helped her realize that she can rely on others for help.
“The injuries themselves taught me that you’re not invincible. I always thought I was invincible, and I was wrong. The injuries taught me it’s OK to rely on other people, it’s OK to ask for help. I was always such a stubborn person and I had to fix everything myself. But it’s OK to ask for help. And, as cheesy as the saying is, if you put your mind to it, you can do it. It’s true,” Nox said.
Nox ended up losing the steel cage to Kai on NXT. Full results of the show can be seen here.
