Taylor Wilde Talks Coming Out Of Retirement, Was Set For IMPACT Wrestling Appearance
Taylor Wilde stepped away from pro wrestling in 2011, but she’s back in the fold.
The TNA Wrestling standout officially announced her return to wrestling when speaking to Fightful for an exclusive interview, but the decision was not a new one. Beyond that, there was already a deal in place for her to return to IMPACT.
“Truth be told, I had decided to go back to wrestling [at] the end of March,” Wilde told us. “I was going to go back for an IMPACT! [Wrestling] date in Canada. I was ready to start the Taylor Wilde 2.0 career and then corona happened and obviously changed the face of the world as we know it. I’m Canadian, the borders are, to some degree, closed unless you’re an essential worker and you have paperwork. Professional wrestlers aren’t high up there on work VISAs. So, I’ve always thought of doing this and it just seems like the right time. Especially because a lot more people are home or living a lower key life, they’re more interested in things like podcasts. So, it’s a platform that I hadn’t utilized before and I’m really excited about.”
At the time, IMPACT Wrestling was teasing an IMPACT vs TNA storyline, and had a TNA retro show on the books for WrestleMania weekend. Wilde isn’t sure if she figured into those plans or not.
“Yeah, like I said it was for the March date. It was a few things surrounding it that made it made sense for it to be [a] Canadian date since I live in Toronto. I think there was some talk about the TNA versus Impact [storyline], but again it literally was happening as the world was changing. There wasn’t anything concrete and I’m not sharing. Things were just changing so quickly,” said Wilde.
With nine years out of wrestling, Wilde said that every couple of years, someone would reach out to gauge her interest in a possible return. As for who tried to bring her back into the fold, several can lay claim to that.
“It was kind of a team thing. There are some friends that I have in the knockouts locker room. I’d taken my son to a show recently, so there were a few connections,” said Wilde.
Wilde specified to Fightful that she’s also open to working independent dates in the future. She admitted that she gets the itch to get back in the ring every so often, and actually busted her face up training before she was pregnant with her child. Despite the speed bump of COVID-19, it looks like she’s still full steam ahead on making her return to pro wrestling.
