Tamina Talks Emotions Of First-Ever Women’s MITB Match Happening On Father’s Day

Emotions are running high for Tamina Snuka, who will be one of the competitors in the first-ever women's ladder match in WWE history is happening this Sunday at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view.

Tamina was interviewed for WWE's YouTube channel this week about the match. Not only is it the first MITB ladder match involving the WWE women's division, it also is taking place on Father's Day, the first of those holidays since her father, WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, died earlier this year.

Tamina said the following regarding the match:

"I think the reaction that I was feeling was, are you serious? Is this really going to happen? This is a moment that I think a lot of us have been waiting for, to where it's the first time in history where we're going to have this women's Money In the Bank ladder match, on Father's Day, it's one of those things that I kind of take to heart. Because when my father was wrestling, he made history—climbing up to the top of the cage, jumped off, did the Superfly splash. And that was beyond. One of those things where you were like, 'Holy crap!' … and now I get to do that. And now I get to have that opportunity. Being in this first ladder match and to actually make history again? It's exciting but it's kind of emotional for me because I kind of take it to heart. A lot."

Tamina recalled watching her father's iconic splash off the top of the cage and what it meant.

"At that time it was so emotional because it was making history, just out of nowhere," she said. "Now, if my daughters are sitting out there and they're watching me and all these other great athletes that I have with me there, it's going to be one of those things of, this is why we do what we do. It's to inspire and it's to be able to let any young woman know, hey, you actually can make it and do whatever it is that anybody else says that you can't do, you actually can do it."

Tamina, Natalya, Becky Lynch, Carmella and Charlotte Flair all will be part of the Money In The Bank ladder match. Just like the long-running tradition in the male division, the winner will capture a briefcase that contains a contract for a title match at any time of the briefcase holder's choosing. In the entire history of the Money In The Bank concept, only twice has a male wrestler "cashed in" his briefcase and failed to win the title.
