Swerve Strickland Explains Why He And Keith Lee Work So Well As A Team
The partnership between Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee goes back to 2017 when the two men teamed in AAW.
Though they’ve taken different paths in their respective careers, they merged together again in 2022 when both men signed with AEW and were paired up shortly after their debut.
Despite some downs, Swerve in Our Glory was way up on the July 13 episode of AEW Dynamite when they won the AEW Tag Team Championships in a triple threat match that also featured Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson).
Speaking to Will Washington, Righteous Reg, & Phil Lindsey on Grapsody, Swerve explained why his partnership with Lee works so well.
“Me and Keith talk about this all the time, still, we’re two individual performers that know how to perform. When you have that, as soon as the red light comes on, we perform. We’re great at timing with one another. When one is down, the other is up, instantly. It’s always synergy and we’re perpetually moving. That’s something lifelong tag teams don’t have. We’re two individuals that know our art and our business and we know what kind of picture we’re going to paint before we’re going to do it, therefore, we’re always on the same page, no matter what, tag team or singles, we just know the layout and we agree on a lot of the same philosophies that we do. That right there makes us strong individually and even stronger as a team and that’s why we’re successful at what we do because we have the same philosophies and agree on a lot of things. Even things we disagree on or don’t match 100% on, the other person picks up on. ‘Keith doesn’t do this, I’ll do it. I can’t do this, I shouldn’t be doing this, I don’t agree with that. Keith can do that.’ We also pass the buck to the other person because we’re two individual performers that are really good at performing,” he said.
Swerve & Lee are set to make their first AEW Tag Team Title defense on pay-per-view when they take on The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) at AEW All Out.
Elsewhere during the interview, Swerve discussed how he and Caster are in different lanes when it comes to their hip-hop presentation. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
