Sting Wants To Bring Darby Allin To Japan With Him For The Great Muta’s Last Match

Sting couldn’t be more honored to be part of the final goodbye to The Great Muta and he’s trying to bring his AEW protégé along for the ride.

After Great Muta saved Sting from a beatdown courtesy of the House of Black at AEW Rampage: Grand Slam, it was announced Sting would be a part of Muta’s retirement match in January 2023 at a Pro-Wrestling NOAH event in Yokohama, Japan.

Now, Sting is speaking about the match with Sports Illustrated and details how honored he is to be in this upcoming match.

“I know my days are numbered, so I’m trying to make the most out of the time left and give the fans everything I have before this wave comes into shore for good,” says Borden, 63. “I’m grateful that Muta was able to be here with me in the United States. That’s a memory I’m going to hold onto, and it signifies the end of our era. I’m looking forward to having one last grand hoorah with The Great Muta, especially in Japan.”

The match is slated to be a six-man tag and Sting says he’s trying to bring Darby Allin along to Japan with him.

“I’m trying to get Darby Allin to come with me,” Borden says. “It’s such an honor, especially since that will be his last night as The Great Muta character.”

Overall, Sting is grateful for his history with The Great Muta and says that whenever Muta needs a favor, the answer will always be yes.

“I set Muta apart from everyone else in my book. He helped me become a household name in Japan, too,” said  the WWE Hall of Famer

When it’s Muta asking, I’ll always say yes,” Borden adds. “Every time we speak, it’s like no time has passed. I know we’re older now, but it doesn’t feel that way when we’re together. It’s such an honor. He is one of the greatest to ever do this.”

Sting was previously retired before joining AEW in 2020. In the past, the only match Sting says he regrets not having is the one against The Undertaker. Read more here.
