Sting Talks About Who Used To Come Into His Gym And Who He’d Like To Face If He Could Ever Get Back In The Ring Again
Lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan Sting appeared on the Talkin' Cowboys show for DallasCowboys.com, decked out in full Stinger regalia with the Face-Paint, the gloves, leather duster, the baseball bat, the who works. He mostly talked about Dallas's upcoming game against the Tama Bay Buccaneers, but he also revealed some nuggets about his wrestling past, not to mention what he had hoped would be his wrestling future.
To hear Sting tell it, he didn't really know much about professional wrestling before he was approached about getting into it.
"I ended up a pro wrestler, but the area of Southern California that I grew up in, a little town, we didn't have pro wrestling on TV. So, when I was approached about pro wrestling, I didn't know what it was."
He paths did cross at that time, back in the 80s, with a future rival of his. "Some big guy used to come into the gym that I owned and managed, people would freak out: 'Do you know who that is?' It was Hulk Hogan." It would have been interesting to see their first meeting at that gym, knowing it would eventually lead to this:
and also this:
Among many other confrontations as well.
Now, as for that dream match with The Undertaker that all of us wanted to see, just once, before Sting was forced to retire last year, it, uh, "stings" a little more to know that Stinger wanted that match, too.
"You know what, I always wanted that Undertaker match. I think wrestling fans it's a dream match for them, it's a dream match for me too, but I just don't think it's going to happen."
There you go. All of our dreams, dashed. And at Christmastime, too.
Still, don't weep for Sting. The retired life is treating him fine. He gets to go on radio shows and talk about his favorite football team while dressed up like The Crow. How many retirees can say the same?
He also compared the NFL schedule to the gring of pro wrestling. You can see the full interview by clicking here.
