Stakes Added To WWE World Cup: SmackDown Live Superstar Will Be Fired If He Loses In The Finals
The WWE World Cup just got a little more interesting.
On Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live, Commissioner Shane McMahon announced that if SmackDown loses the World Cup to Raw, the man who represents SmackDown in the Finals will be fired from the blue brand. You can view the segment in the video above.
Scheduled to represent SmackDown in the World Cup at Crown Jewel is Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, The Miz, and Jeff Hardy. First round matches include Hardy vs. Miz and Mysterio vs. Orton.
In the main event of SmackDown Live, Hardy and Mysterio were able to build momentum as they defeated Orton and Miz in tag team action. However, it was Orton who stood tall to close the show after a series of RKOs.
The man who emerges from the SmackDown side of the bracket will face the Raw representative in the Finals. Raw is represented by Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, Kurt Angle, and Dolph Ziggler. Angle will meet Ziggler while Rollins faces Lashley in the first round for Raw.
The WWE World Cup will be decided this Friday at Crown Jewel. Fightful will provide live coverage of the event, which starts at 12 p.m. ET on the WWE Network. If you missed any of the action from Tuesday’s SmackDown, catch up with Fightful’s full report and post-show podcast.
