A big day for the women’s division.

The announcement concerning the launch of the NXT U.K. brand was one that drew massive amounts of attention to what the WWE was trying to establish in the U.K. wrestling scene. A press release was sent out following the announcement of the NXT U.K. brand and the press release read that there would be NXT U.K. Tag Team Titles established as well as an NXT U.K. Women’s Championship.

Yesterday at the NXT U.K. TV tapings in Birmingham, England, the tournament to crown the first-ever NXT U.K. Women’s Champion commenced. The competitors in the tournament were Toni Storm, Xia Brookside, Jinny, Rhea Ripley, Isla Dawn, Millie McKenzie, Dakota Kai and Nina Samuels. Today’s NXT U.K. TV tapings featured the semi-finals and the finals of that very tournament. The two women who moved on to the finals to fight for the right to call themselves the “first-ever” were Toni Storm and Rhea Ripley. The end of the contest saw the 21-year old Aussie Rhea Ripley defeat Toni Storm to become NXT’s U.K. Women’s Champion.
