Sonya Deville Says She’s Given Creative Freedom In Her Current Role

Sonya Deville has been a critically acclaimed part of recent episodes of SmackDown due to her work on the microphone. Now, she reveals that she has also earned the trust of the WWE creative team along the way.

When Daria Berenato became a competitor on the 2015 edition of WWE Tough Enough, she was completely inexperienced. She would earn a contract with WWE due to her work ethic and in recent months, that work ethic has shined in her feud with Mandy Rose.

Speaking with Sportskeeda, Deville opened up about enjoying a lot of creative freedom recently and says that the WWE creative team trusts her.

“To be honest, I get a lot of freedom. I’m blessed that… you know, I think it’s one of those things where once you prove yourself and they know that you can talk, uh, who knows your character and your thoughts better than yourself? I’ve had really cool creative liberties to work with the writers and come up with some cool stuff and kind of say what I’m feeling the last few months,” said Sonya.

Continuing on, Sonya would say that fans appreciate genuine attributes shining through in television characters and that is why she is resonating with more fans today.

“I feel like fans love it when they can feel the [genuineness] and the realness in someone’s character or persona … that’s everything that I say, everything that I do, it comes from a real part of me and it really is me. So I feel like fans are feeling that and they’re finally seeing what I, I’ve always known I’m capable of.”

Next for Sonya and Mandy, they will compete in a hair vs. hair match at WWE SummerSlam on Sunday, August 23rd, 2020. You can see the full card at this link.
