Sonya Deville Recalls ‘Daddy’ Promo Responding To Becky Lynch

On the Oct. 16 episode of The Bump, Becky Lynch had praise for Sonya Deville, saying she is “one to look out for.”

One week later, Deville responded, not with praise, but with a warning.

Deville launched in a promo, saying, “You have the ten-time Women’s Champion, whose dad worked for the company for like 40 years. You have the beautiful blonde pinup who can’t wait to run home and make her husband a sandwich. You have the one with the pigtails who dresses up as characters, and everybody loves her, and then you have the two that cry on the floor when they don’t get their way. Then, the one with the cat ears. Then you have the one, the pinnacle of the women’s division. The one that brought us to the main event of WrestleMania. The one who is so strong that she had to start calling herself The Man to get noticed. I can’t wait to face The Man. And when I do. I’m gonna make her my son. And then she’s gonna have to call me daddy.”

Six months later, Deville is a featured player on SmackDown and proving Becky Lynch correct when she called her a “future star.”

“I was in a place where I wasn’t being heavily featured on SmackDown,” recalled Deville when discussing her promo on The Bump. “I was watching Becky Lynch take the women’s division by storm and crush it every week. I remember thinking, ‘I’m capable of that too and I want a piece of this.’ I remember coming up thinking about my reply and thinking, ‘I’m not going to give a generic thank you for saying I’m a future star. I know I’m a future star and I’m going to show you exactly why.'”

Deville has been feuding with former best friend Mandy Rose in recent months and receiving praise for her promo work. Elsewhere during her appearance on The Bump, Deville cut an in-character promo on Rose, discussing why she betrayed her friend. You can find her full comments by clicking here.
