Sonya Deville Felt Like Her Comeback Was Never Going To Happen, Says 2021 Will Be The Year Of SmackDown
Sonya Deville is back but in an authoritative role.
After dropping a “Loser Leaves WWE” match at SummerSlam 2020 to Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville returned to television on the New Year’s Day episode of SmackDown. It was stated on commentary that Deville had been reinstated by WWE, but her role was unclear at the time.
On January 8, Deville met with – unofficial general manager – Adam Pearce backstage and said that she wanted to put the past behind her, and is grateful and happy for the opportunity to help Pearce, feeling like he needs it.
Appearing on Talking Smack in a custom dolphin blue three-piece suit, Deville was welcomed back to SmackDown and shared her excitement for everything that lies ahead, not only for herself but for SmackDown as well.
“It’s never felt better. It felt like it was never going to happen. A long 4 months off, but you know what, 2021 is going to be the year of Sonya Deville, but also the year of SmackDown. I’m excited about so many things to come for the show and I’m excited to show you guys.”
Kayla Braxton asked Deville to comment on her new managerial-esque role but wasn’t able to extract much information other than that she wants to make SmackDown a desirable destination for WWE Superstars.
“I think anyone that knows me knows that that’s just a natural fit for my personality and I think it’s just a great kind of duo with Pearce right now. I want to make SmackDown a good place to work, and I want the women to get opportunities. I have a lot of things in store, and I think it’s all going to be positive, moving in the upward direction, and that’s all I’m going to tell you.”
Talking Smack is available to watch on the free version of the WWE Network.
