Sonny Kiss Says He And Joey Janela Were Supposed To Start Teaming Up Together On AEW In March

The recent pairing between Sonny Kiss and Joey Janela on AEW programming wasn’t something that was decided overnight.

In fact, the two were originally supposed to start teaming together as a tag team on AEW back in March, as revealed by Kiss in an interview with TV Insider. Kiss revealed that the two of them were supposed to start together at AEW’s canceled show in New York months ago and spoke about the friendship the two of them have outside of the ring.

“Joey and I were supposed to team with each other back in March at the New York show. But due to the climate today, we were unable to do that. We have really good chemistry. It’s authentic. We’ve been together throughout the indies. We’ve traveled 16 to 24 hours together. We’re really good friends. I learned so much from him, thankful to have him by my side. AEW pairing us together was perfect timing. It totally worked. We’re like peanut butter and jelly,” Kiss said.

Although Kiss and Janela are a tag team, Kiss will have a tough test in the form of Cody on July 15 when Kiss challenges him for the TNT Championship at Fight For The Fallen. Kiss spoke on the match, saying it’s a huge opportunity.

“It’s a humongous opportunity for me. Cody is amazing and one of the best wrestlers in the world today,” Kiss said. “He works extremely hard. I never met a person more passionate than him. To be given this opportunity is awesome. I can’t fathom it right now. Let’s bring it.”

Fightful will have live coverage of Fight For The Fallen.
