Sinclair TV Stations Experience Ransomware Attack, Maria Kanellis Comments On Shooting ROH Footage
ROH may have lost some footage after a ransomware attack on Sinclair stations.
According to The Record, Sinclair experienced a nationwide outage during a ransomware attack on October 16.
The report reads, “Certain servers and workstations in its environment were encrypted with ransomware, and that certain office and operational networks were disrupted. Data also was taken from the Company’s network. The Company is working to determine what information the data contained and will take other actions as appropriate based on its review.”
Sinclair’s report also notes the company still isn’t up and running 100%. While it’s trying to resolve the issue, there may still be “disruption to parts of the Company’s business, including certain aspects of its provision of local advertisements by its local broadcast stations on behalf of its customers.”
The attackers weren’t able to compromise the “master control.” Sinclair was able to replace some scheduled shows with a national feed — that way, not all of its channels were completely down.
ROH’s Maria Kanellis mentioned the attacks during her Oral Sessions interview with Renee Paquette, saying, “Sinclair has a big cyber attack on all…ransomware like craziness. I’ve had to shoot a lot of random stuff just incase we don’t get our footage back. Sinclair has a ton of news networks, so this news network in Detroit, I think it was Detroit, had to do a drawing of what the weather was going to be and they showed it on air. They don’t have any graphics so that’s what they had to do.”
It is unknown how much, if any, footage ROH lost in the attack. ROH TV airs on Sinclair stations every weekend. Shows are also available on their website.
