Shinsuke Nakamura Talks What He Needs To Do Succeed On The Main Roster
Newly-crowned NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura’s success in WWE thus far has many salivating at the thought of Nakamura making an impact on the main roster, whether it would be on RAW or SmackDown.
Nakamura spoke to Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard and said that in order to succeed on the main roster, he would need to improve on his English-speaking skills.
“I need to study English more, I’ll start by watching Sesame Street every day,” Nakamura said. “Wrestling has its own culture. Every culture–Japan, Samoan, Indian, Korean–has wrestling, and wrestling is a worldwide mix.”
The former NJPW star said that he hopes to one day compete at WrestleMania. Nakamura also has an opponent in mind.
“I’d like to fight at WrestleMania,” Nakamura said. “John Cena–that’s a great choice.”
The 38-year-old said that Japanese fans are not exposed to the WWE product as much as they are with Japanese wrestling. Nakamura hopes to be that crossover star and have Japanese fans watch more WWE.
“Typical Japanese wrestling fans only know Japanese wrestling,” Nakamura said. “Shinsuke Nakamura’s fans just started to watch WWE now, so I hope they expand their world with me.”
Nakamura made his NXT debut at NXT TakeOver: Dallas against Sami Zayn. Since then, he has been on a meteoric rise to the top of the card. He defeated Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 2.
