Shinsuke Nakamura’s Next Contract Decision Could Come Down To Better Surfing
Shinsuke Nakamura’s contract is set to expire in early 2019.
Nakamura signed a three-year deal with WWE at the start of 2016, leaving NJPW to come stateside. When asked by Inside The Ropes about his future, Nakamura stated his decision could come down to the water.
“That’s a big decision.
“Florida’s waves is better than Japan. Just hour drive to the beach. Once a week, able to go the surfing. In Japan, if there’s a hurricane — I lived across from the beach, just a ten-minute walk. It’s hard to choose.”
Nakamura spent 14 years in NJPW, capturing the IWGP Intercontinental and Heavyweight Championships. In 2011, he won the G1 Climax tournament. He made his WWE debut at NXT TakeOver: Dallas, defeating Sami Zayn. He spent a year in NXT, winning the NXT Championship on two separate occasions. He made his main roster debut on the SmackDown following WrestleMania 33. Earlier this year, he won the Royal Rumble and challenged AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.
He’s currently the United States Champion on the SmackDown. At SummerSlam, he defeated Jeff Hardy to retain the championship.
