Shelton Benjamin Returns To WWE, Competing On SmackDown Live

Shelton Benjamin has returned to WWE and even has a new tag team partner.

Benjamin returned to WWE on the August 22 episode of SmackDown Live where he appeared in a backstage segment with SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan and Chad Gable. It was in that segment where Bryan announced Benjamin and Gable would be a tag team and compete the following week.

Bryan revealed that Shelton Benajmin was acquired when Bryan sent Jason Jordan to WWE Raw, and that Kurt Angle helped make the signing happen.

Benjamin was slated to return to WWE last year and be a part of SmackDown Live. WWE's blue brand even aired vignettes hyping his return to the company. Unfortunately for Benjamin, it was revealed during medical testing that he had a torn rotator cuff and so WWE stopped running the vignettes and Benjamin's deal fell through. Benjamin then had surgery to repair the torn rotator cuff. It was reported in mid-August that Benjamin had signed back with the company.

Although he has had success as a singles wrestler in WWE, Benjamin also thrived as a tag team wrestler. Benjamin and Charlie Haas, as part of the World's Greatest Tag Team, won the WWE Tag Team Championship twice.

Benjamin was spotted in Brooklyn on August 21, fueling rumors that he had signed back with WWE and that he would be making his return for the SmackDown Live brand.
