Shawn Spears Has Pitched An Idea For AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023
Shawn Spears has high hopes for All Elite Wrestling’s upcoming tour of Canada.
Shawn Spears recently returned to AEW. For the most part, he has been entangled with Bullet Club Gold’s “Switchblade” Jay White and “Rock Hard” Juice Robinson. However, with AEW’s tour of Canada on the horizon, Spears has big plans and a great desire to be a part of the upcoming shows in his native country.
Speaking with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, Spears revealed that he has even pitched an idea for the upcoming AEW x New Japan-Pro Wrestling Forbidden Door event, a significant stop on the aforementioned tour.
“I even sent out an idea today for a Forbidden Door 2, you know, it’s a special kick-off. Forbidden Door’s massive, and Toronto’s always been more than gracious, more than welcoming to me. Like you mentioned, last October, a very vulnerable, personal, but very public moment for me there. I’m being biased, but the Canadians, you can almost feel the acceptance and comfort coming from an audience like that,” he explained.
“I have no doubt that with all of the shows — and I think we’re hitting the [Canadian Prairies] and almost everything out to the west coast, which is fantastic,” he continued. “I hope to be on those shows, I look forward to being on those shows. If not, you’re gonna hear [stories], ‘Shawn Spears got in trouble backstage for yelling at the fact that he wasn’t on Canadian shows and threw a bag down the hall and kicked a door.’ So if I’m not on those shows, they’re going to have yank me out of there kicking and screaming.”
It has already been announced that AEW will kick off the 2023 Owen Hart Foundation Memorial Cup Tournament at Forbidden Door.
The tournament will conclude on July 15 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the home of Owen Hart and the Hart family. Fans can learn more about that here.
