Shawn Michaels Says He Could Come Out Of Retirement But People Would Have To Accept That They Wouldn’t Be Getting “The Showstopper”

"The Heartbreak Kid" not ruling out a return…

WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels is regarded by fans and those who have had the pleasure of working with him in the ring as one of the greatest in-ring performers of all-time. The first-ever Grand Slam Champion of WWE hung up his wrestling boots following his WrestleMania XXVI loss to The Undertaker with the stipulation of the match being that if Michaels could not defeat "The Deadman" he would have to retire from the land of sports-entertainment. Michaels was unsuccessful in his quest and he came out the following night on RAW and told the fans in attendance that Shawn Michaels was officially leaving the building.

Michaels has made sporadic appearances for WWE throughout the years since his retirement; one of which is coming up on June 18th where he will have a role at the WWE United Kingdom Championship tournament. HBK is currently a backstage producer for NXT and at 52-years old Michaels has stated on numerous platforms that he is content with being in retirement. But during a recent interview with Sky Sports Michaels did not turn down the idea of coming out of retirement. The Hall Of Famer stated that if he did, fans would have to accept that they would not be seeing the Shawn Michaels of old and he even name-dropped a few guys who he would like to work with for a one-off match.

"I've been retired for eight years now and when it got to the five-year mark I thought people would start asking me but they just kind of stopped," he said. "I think it's one of those that you would never say never about and if it was just for a one-off then it's something that I would take a look at. It would have to be done the right way and just for one match rather than something that ran for longer. It could be possible but people would have to accept they wouldn't be getting the Showstopper, Mr. WrestleMania, and that I'm 52 years old now." Michaels continued, "If it was the Shawn Michaels of 10 years ago I would love to have gotten in the ring with so many of the guys that are competing today," he said. "AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan would be good, and then there's the guys in NXT too. Someone like a Johnny Gargano would be fantastic. But for a one-off match now, I'd need it to be a tag-team match where Hunter and I can just do a few crotch chops and have some fun."

As mentioned, "The Heartbreak Kid" will be making an appearance during the WWE U.K. Championship tournament in two weeks. To view the first-round match-ups for the tourney, click here.
