Shane McMahon Explains Why He Prevented Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn From Winning The WWE Championship At ‘Fastlane’
Shane McMahon feels that he was provoked, but Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn feel otherwise.
During the six-pack challenge for the WWE Championship last night at 'Fastlane', there were separate occasions for both Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens when they could have become WWE Champion, but those opportunities were prevented by SmackDown Live commissioner Shane McMahon. The commotion began after Zayn & Owens rolled to the ringside area after trading blows with one another. Zayn would then lock eyes with Shane McMahon who was sitting ringside watching the action unfold.
Sami Zayn would then exchange a few words with McMahon, but behind Zayn was a superkick-poised Kevin Owens who eagerly waited for his "best-friend" to turn around so that he could deliver the blow. Zayn swiftly moved out of the way and the kick connected to the face of McMahon.
While Shane was recovering on the outside, Kevin Owens put himself in position to win the WWE Championship by hitting his signature "Pop-Up Powerbomb" on Dolph Ziggler.. It appeared that the former WWE Universal Champion was on his way to capturing another major singles title, but Shane McMahon had enough and decided to pull the referee out of the ring as his hand was nearing a three count. Immediately after Kevin Owens' WWE Title dreams came crashing, so did Sami Zayn's as Zayn capitalized off of Owens being distracted and delivered a "Helluva Kick" to K.O.,but the SmackDown Live commissioner would pull Zayn out of the ring as he was on his way to capturing his first championship on WWE's main roster.
As seen in the clip above, McMahon would explain his actions stating that although he is aware that he cost both Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens the WWE Championship, he felt provoked by way of the superkick. Shane would then mention how SmackDown Live GM Daniel Bryan plays into all this, stating that Bryan sees a lot of himself in Zayn & Owens and that he lives through them seeing as how he is no longer an active competitor on the roster. Towards the end of 'Talking Smack', Shane shared that he does not feel bad about what he did, but maybe later on he will feel the affects of costing Zayn & Owens the WWE Championship.
