Shane Helms Shares Story Of Running Out Of Gas With New Hall Of Famer DDP
Shane Helms and Diamond Dallas Page ran out of gas in the desert because of a Russell Crowe movie.
Page is entering the WWE Hall of Fame this year. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion and WWE Tag Team Champion wrestled for fifteen years in WWE, WCW, and Impact Wrestling. Since his career he has started his Yoga company and helped wrestlers like Scott Hall and Jake Roberts regain their sobriety and health. In a mailbag episode of Fightful Wrestling's podcast, Shane Helms shared a story of one of his experiences being around the future Hall of Famer.
"We rode together for a while in WWE, when he finally came up. We ran out of gas in the middle of the Arizona desert because we weren't paying attention. He banged his knee up in Yuma, Arizona, where we wrestled on a ball field. I don't know if they do that show any more but they do outdoor shows sometimes on shitty ball fields, and I don't know why. We did one," said Helms. "The drive from Yuma to Phoenix is one hundred miles or whatever. It's nothing, I mean it's a dessert, it's the highway and absolutely nothing. Page put the DVD player up on the dashboard and Gladiator was playing. He's watching that and I'm glancing over but I ain't looking at that damn gas gauge," he continued.
After a frustrating conversation with roadside assistance, they were saved by Devon Dudley with gas canisters. Helms had favorable remarks about Page, saying he went out of his way to help Helms when he first started working at WCW. This episode of the podcast was a mailbag episode where Helms answered questions from the Fightful Wrestling audience including his favorite finisher and The Green Lantern.
Helms appears on Fridays on Fightful Wrestling's podcast, the episodes are available immediately with free membership.
