Shane Helms Recalls Vince McMahon’s Reaction To Him Wanting To Call The Cruiserweight Title The CW Title
Shane Helms is the longest-reigning WWE Cruiserweight Champion in history, holding the belt for 385 days. Helms won the title on January 29, 2006 at WWE Royal Rumble, defeating Funaki, Jamie Noble, Nunzio, Paul London, and Kid Kash in a six-way match.
During his reign, WWE SmackDown aired on the CW Network. Given this, Helms thought it would be interesting to refer to the Cruiserweight Title as the CW Title to tie-in with the network. Vince McMahon didn’t agree.
I once asked VKM could I refer to the Cruiserweight Championship as the CW Championship since we were on the CW Network? He just looked at me and said, “Why would you do that?” I replied, “I guess I wouldn’t.” And I walked away. ——

Helms’ tweet came shortly after AEW announced the new TNT Championship, referencing AEW’s partnership with the network. The eight-man tournament is set to begin on April 8 with the new champion being crowned at AEW Double or Nothing.
