Scrapped Jushin Thunder Liger Match For WWE 2K22 Showcase Mode Revealed

Jushin Thunder Liger might have been planned for WWE 2K22.

The newest installment from the WWE2K series released on March 11th, 2022 and fans are beginning to discover things in the game’s files that were deleted or taken out before release.

According to Twitter user WhatTheStatus, the historic Rey Mysterio vs. Jushin Thunder Liger match from WCW Starrcade 96′ was at least planned for the Rey Mysterio showcase mode in the game. The screenshot that he shared has an identical graphical layout to the other matches featured in the mode. The mode’s first match turned out to be Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero from WCW Halloween Havoc 97′ instead.

Mysterio’s attire from that event along with the playable arena are still featured in the game, which is solid evidence that the match was at least planned for the Showcase mode at one point or another. It is unknown why the bout did not make the final cut of the game. A scan of Liger’s mask can be found in the Create-A-Wrestler suite and has been available in-game for a few years.

Jushin Thunder Liger has never appeared in a WWE branded video game before. The New Japan Pro Wrestling legend was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2021, despite only wrestling one match for the company against Tyler Breeze at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn in 2015. Liger is most known for his time with NJPW and WCW.

There was also a MyRise storyline cut from the game that featured The Fiend and Dana Brooke. Click here to learn more on that.
