Samoa Joe Explains How He Remained In WWE 2K22 Following His Release

Samoa Joe was released by WWE on January 6, but remains one of many released characters who are still playable in WWE 2K22.

Appearing on Kinda Funny Games Daily, Joe was asked how WWE was able to still use his character despite him no longer being under contract.

“Built into our contract is a licensing agreement,” he said. “I am Samoa Joe, that’s my trademark that I own. For me, it’s a little different than most guys because I have a licensing agreement and we negotiated our price based off that. It’s essentially the same type of thing with guys who don’t have their own name. When you leave there, that character is still there for their properties.”

When co-host Greg Miller said he wanted a game that just had all the wrestlers, Joe commented, “There has been efforts at various times to make that a reality. Various companies and various games. It’s really just a licensing nightmare to try and track everybody down.”

WWE 2K22 is available now on all platforms. Fans can check out a playthrough of MyGM Mode by clicking here.
