As announced on the September 7 ediion of AEW Dynamite, the tournament will be held on the road to the Grand Slam edition of the show on September 21. Bryan Danielson won the first bout in the bracket to advance to the next round, where he will face Chris Jericho.
On the September 9 episode of AEW Rampage, Sammy Guevara faced Darby Allin in the Rampage Wildcard match. The two men renewed their rivalry; they have faced off three times in the past. They threw everything they had at each other, but the interference of Tay Melo made all the difference.
She distracted Allin, which allowed Guevara to take control. He went for Allin’s own coffin drop, but the former TNT Champion moved. Anna Jay A.S. came to the ring to distract Allin, and Guevara capitalized. He hit Allin below the belt and nailed the GTH for the win.
