Sami Callihan: Wrestling Should Be Like ‘Game Of Thrones’

Tessa Blanchard made history at IMPACT Hard To Kill in January when she defeated Sami Callihan to win the IMPACT World Title. The decision to put the IMPACT World Title on a woman was met with backlash by some fans and those in the industry for various reasons.

Booker T called it “the worst idea in history” and believed Callihan hurt his career by losing the bout. You can find his full comments by clicking here.

Callihan responded to any critics of the decision made by IMPACT in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, saying, “Booker T put it, ‘He ruined his career, he lost to a woman.’ It’s 2020. In the world of professional wrestling, I feel like we should be like Game of Thrones. For anyone to say in professional wrestling, especially the Cornette fans, ‘This isn’t wrestling.’ Why isn’t it? Undertaker struck a man with a lightning bolt. Kane shot a person with a fireball. A giant fucking turkey hatched out of an egg on Thanksgiving. Pro wrestling is supposed to be fun. I hate the term ‘this isn’t wrestling.’ Everything is wrestling. Just because you don’t like a certain style doesn’t mean it’s wrong. I like my wrestling as a wrestling buffet.”

Callihan has a longstanding feud with Jim Cornette that escalated in MLW when Callihan spit water on Cornette, who was employed as an announcer. Callihan later explained that he spit water at Cornette over comments he made regarding Sonny Kiss.

Elsewhere in the interview, Callihan discussed his ability to work fans and veterans with his online persona. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
